SERVICES

From the most simple to the most complex, the following options for creating a custom piece are available.  Keep in mind that various combinations of these options can be used.  All work is done in-house except where indicated.

Custom Services

Custom design service
Bringing your vision to reality has never been easier. Working with you, we will generate a color-accurate CAD drawing of your concept or help you create a custom rug using our huge library of patterns. Either way, our process is simple and painless and always yields beautiful originals.

Basic border rug
Fabricated from carpet of different colors and/or textures, a border rug contains one or more borders of various widths that surround the rug.  Generally, the edges of each border are hand-beveled to add depth and dimension.

Custom design inlaid rug or carpet
Any design that can be drawn on paper can be duplicated into a rug using different colors and textures of carpet.  Each piece is hand-cut and seamed together, and the completed design is hand-carved to add both depth and dimension.  The same techniques can be used for wall-to-wall carpeting before it is installed.

Custom carved or bas-relief design
Using a single piece of carpet, Twistique hand-carves the carpet fibers to create an amazing sculpted design.  Bas-relief is the technique of removing background material from around the design to give it a raised look to create three dimensions.  It could be said that the resulting design from the two techniques are the opposite of each other.

On-site Carving
The techniques described in the section above are applied to existing wall-to-wall carpeting.  Incredible designs and borders can be carved into plush carpet to create a look that is both unique and beautiful.

Staircase runners
Using the same techniques in creating a rug, a custom runner can be created to add incredible beauty to any staircase.  A design can either run the length of the staircase or repeat itself on every stair.

Specialty wide binding
Fabric binding is available in 3” and 4 ¾” wide sizes in many colors.  This will provide up to 1 ½” and 3 ½”, respectively, of binding showing on the top of the rug.  Wide binding is generally only applied to straight edges.

Fabric edge and inset borders
Generally used to match existing upholstery or drapery fabrics, Twistique will sew or fabricate a border using any fabric provided.  Sewn outside borders can be up to 8 ½” wide, and fabricated borders, either inset or outside, can be as wide as the fabric allows.

Leather borders
Applied in the same manner as fabric or specialty wide binding, pre-cut strips or Twistique-cut hides of many colors can be used to border or inset a rug.

Tapestry borders
Many tapestry designs are available for bordering a rug.  Also applied like fabric, tapestry provides a unique border of up to 5” wide.

Custom hand-tufted and hand-knotted wool and silk rugs
Using partners in the US, Twistique can commission extremely complex designs normally seen in oriental rugs.  Each rug is tufted or knotted by hand using wool and/or silk fibers.  Hand-knotted rugs are Tibetan while the hand-tufted originate from several locales such as the US and Asia.

Wall tapestries
The same techniques to create a custom sculpted rug are used to create the three-dimensional works of art that are wall tapestries.  Originally designed to protect medieval rooms from damp and cold weather, wall tapestries from Twistique are a unique investment in functional art.  They provide both beauty and sound dampening.

Fiber Optics
Fiber optics can enhance any custom work created by Twistique.  Each fiber is carefully inserted into the design and then attached to an external color wheel.  The resulting effect is nothing short of breathtaking.

Corporate Logos and Commercial work
A powerful and lasting first impression can be created with a logo rug or tapestry designed by Twistique.  Any business environment such as boardrooms, lobby areas, and executive offices can be dramatically enhanced with custom rug and carpet solutions.  Trade show booths are another excellent application.

Additional Offerings
Twistique also offers the following:

  • Mohair throws, rugs, and pillows in an assortment of colors
  • Cow hides and checkered rugs made of cow hides.

Standard Services

Standard Binding and Serging
Twistique will cut carpet into any shape or size and finish the edges with either synthetic 7/8” wide binding or full wrap-around serging.  We have hundreds of binding colors to choose from and it is applied with an industrial chainstitch carpet sewing machine.  We stock a smaller inventory of serging yarn colors but can obtain any color in a matter of days.

Backing
Twistique offers 5 different options for backing a rug—felt, monk’s cloth, rubber, Teebaud, and Daltonian.  Felt is the least expensive and is fine for most hard surfaces except where slippage is a concern.  Monk’s cloth is a synthetic cotton and is an upscale alternative to felt.  Rubber is great for grip but is not recommended for wood floors.  Teebaud is a double-sided non-skid product that can be used as a backing or loose-lay.  One side is for hard surfaces and one side is for carpeting.  Daltonian is ¼” padding with some non-skid properties that can also be used as a backing or loose-lay.  Daltonian contains an anti-microbial ingredient called Ultra Fresh.

Cove Base
Mainly a commercial application, strips of carpet (generally 4” wide) are cut and bound on one edge.  Applied to the base of walls, it provides excellent scuff-proof protection and a very clean look.
